Interview with Lars Guy

If you ever wondered who the Artlantis users are? Artlantisobjects.com gives you a chance to meet those special people. The goal is to interview Artlantis users or people who contributed to what Artlantis is now and place them in the floodlight. We are going to tell you about them and the work they do

This is the first one of a series of interviews with important Artlantis users.

The first great artist you are going to meet is Lars Guy.

Lars is one of the “CDSun Valley.com gang”.  They provide great Cad work and visuals for architects and constructors. Lars really has improved his skills in working with Artlantis and grew out to be an award winning artist. We are proud to show you more of his work here.

What do you do in daily life?
I live in a resort town. I moved here for the skiing, but the summers are even better. After getting married, I focused more on my career and got involved with local Architecture. Now I have 2 kids and a new home. This means I spend a lot of time working to support my obligations, but I still find time to enjoy my surroundings. In the summer, I get to commute to my office on a intricate mountain bike trail system from my home. Some days it takes me 2 hours to get to work, but that is after a 20-30 km ride (up to 1,000 meters vertical gain)

What do you do when you are not working with Artlantis?
If this is a work related question, I would answer that I am either managing my office, doing design/drafting in Archicad or preparing texture maps for use in upcoming projects.

How did you come involved in Abvent?
I received an invitation from Alain after establishing a line of communication with them (at Abvent) and contributing to the Gallery at the time.

How did you come involved in Artlantis?
This is simple. I have used Archicad (on a Mac) since Archicad Version 4. There were not many options for an easy rendering workflow back then. We all know that the Archicad renderings were not of a professional caliber and Artlantis was an easy choice. I also used Cinema 4D and Electric Image, but the jobs of the day and the workflow required prevented me from spending too much time using these, except for animation projects.

Is there a special project you are proud of and can you tell us about it?
I did a private island residence in the Turks and Caicos using version 4.5. It would have been great to do it in Studio 2, but this was the most complex thing I have modeled to date

Also, I have had some more projects in the Caribbean, this is one of them:

Can you reveal for us your main workflow to achieve the results you allways show (in a few steps)?
I model everything in Archicad, paying special attention to details. I tend to round my corners and smooth my edges where specular highlights and details will occur. I export into Artlantis where I apply mostly custom texture maps, play with the lighting, do tests. I often add custom parts and objects where needed. I typically render out in .PSD and then create a composition in Photoshop using many photographic elements/layers to blend and create the images.

You are also a Beta tester; can you tell us about it?
I enjoy being part of this. I get to use the software early on and hopefully contribute to the development and improvement by requesting and commenting on functions and features.

What can we expect from Lars Guy in the near future?
Hopefully more of the same...only better!
